More Bar Promotions!

An idea for an air guitar competition began as a joke and suddenly turned into serious profits at Bobby Q’s in Phoenix, Ariz. The promotion got started as a means to keep people in the club during the intermissions of one of the more popular bands, Metalhead.

“Metalhead plays for 15 minutes and then breaks for 30 minutes and then goes back on,” says former Director of Marketing Stephanie Rothery. In a flash of inspiration, she decided to look into hosting air guitar contests by pulling the patrons up on stage to see who had the most theatrical presence, thinking that such a contest would fit perfectly with the band’s insane rock tributes to the 1980s.

Intermissions are now wilder than the live band on stage and with 200 people on average through the door, no one is complaining — or planning on standing still.
