Vegas Old School Party
If a Vegas-style promotion can work down under, it can work anywhere.
“My Vegas Old school party is one of the best promotions I have had in acouple of years,” says Tony Wheeler of Nightlife Music Video (www.nightlife.com.au) in Christchurch, New Zealand. Wheeler uses 10 packs of cards stamped each week with a different stamp or hole punch to stop anyone bringing their own cards, and every three weeks he uses a different set of cards.
Every purchase over $4 gets a card, and the player with the best hand at theend of the night wins a grand prize. If two people have the same hand, Wheeler cutscards to find a winner.
“Around the bar, I post the hands needed to win, and we like punters to swap cards,” Wheeler says. “We find large numbers of girls will give up their cards and gain free drinks in return. It’s lots of fun and easy for staff to run. At 1 a.m., all cardholders can bring their hands up to register them. At 1:30 the winner is called out.”
